I'm the first one to say that TB has totally fvcked up the Sookie/Eric relationship. The basis is shaky at best. It's easy for many fans to "not get it." At the end of S4, I think the show was telling us: you need to just accept that she loves Eric whether you think she should or not -- we're just telling you.

Similarly, what they've done with the Bill character (changes from the book) make his transgressions against Sookie really bad.... so much so that many fans don't understand how she can still love him. They "don't get it." So, at the end of S4, I think the show was telling us: you need to just accept that she loves Bill whether you think she should or not -- we're just telling you.

I don't know if this was done on purpose or by mistake. I think in the case of Eric/Sookie, their relationship was not well thought out. For Bill/Sookie I think it is part of the "plan" -- Bill's redemption.
