| Date: 7/26/2010 Comic-Con ‘True Blood’ Scoop The cast and creator of 'True Blood' talk about what's to come on the HBO series Tara Fowler Alan Ball and company had some juicy spoilers to serve up on HBO’s hit show, True Blood, at their Comic-Con panel Friday. Beware, readers! Some of these tidbits may make you want to twist your own head around 180 degrees, particularly if you’re a fan of Viking vampire and Sheriff of Area Five, Eric Northman. "I do believe that Bill and Sookie are soulmates," show-runner Ball declared during the panel. “I think that Bill and Sookie of the show have become slightly different from the Bill and Sookie of the books. [And] I personally root for things to work out between them. I don't know if they will, but I believe the love is true between them." Unfortunately, if you (like me) are one of those that hopes that Eric will ultimately win the fair lady of Bon Temps’ heart, it seems we have another thing coming. And yet, E! Online reports there is still a chance for a real Eric/Sookie hookup (as opposed to a dream-based one). Ball teased season four, saying, "There's a character that doesn't really know who he or she is and becomes a different person than we've gotten to know, and maybe someone who has hated this person doesn't hate them so much anymore." Book readers, you know exactly who Ball’s talking about. Other True Blood news from the Con included teasers of “gruesome” scenes to come involving Sam, more of James Frain’s delicious psychopathic vampire Franklin, and the discovery of just what exactly Sookie’s powers really are. Line of the night, however, went to actress Kristin Bauer, who plays Pam on the series. When asked about working with wild animals, Bauer interjected and said: "Oh, Skarsgård isn't so bad once you get used to him." | Date: 02/04/2010 True Blood spoiler: After an exhaustive and months-long search, sources confirm that actress Brit Morgan — best known from ABC Family’s short-lived drama The Middleman — has scored the pivotal role of Debbie Pelt, the psycho ex girlfriend of werewolf Alcide (Joe Manganiello). Last month, exec producer Alan Ball told me that the juicy part — already a major component of the show’s upcoming third season — was being beefed up. “She’s going to be in more episodes,” he said, “so maybe that will have an impact on [what actress] we can get for her, which is a big question right now.” With that question now answered, all of Season 3’s major roles have been cast. Do you think Morgan’s right for the part? Surprised Ball didn’t go with a bigger name (and word is there were a couple in the running)? Sound off below! | Date: 01/25/2010 True Blood spoiler: True Blood's Alexander Skarsgård More Naked Than EverGood news for True Blood fans! We're told we can expect much more nudity during season three of the hit HBO vampire series, which began filming again last month. "A lot of people will be getting naked this season," T.B.'s Todd Lowe (aka Terry Bellefleur)told us at the 16th Annual SAG Awards Saturday night. In fact, according to castmate Carrie Preston, baring it all is especially a cinch for hunky 33-year-old Swede Alexander Skarsgård... "Alex is not shy about getting naked at all!" said Preston, who plays Arlene Fowler. "And there will be lots of those kinds of scenes with Alex this season." Lowe said, "He's already been naked a time or two so far since we've gotten back to filming." Nelsan Ellis, who plays same-sex-lovin' Lafayette, said, "There are a lot of hunky dudes and beautiful women who have been added to the cast, so it doesn't surprise me that more clothes are coming off." At the recent BAFTA/L.A. tea party, Sam Trammell, who's already gone practically full frontal as Sam Merlotte, said he'd like to have a bigger share of the fangelicious hanky-panky. "I'm not having any sex yet," Trammell told us. "They really should provide Sam with more sex." But then he added, "There is a surprising—well, shocking—scene in the first episode. Some people will be happy and some people will not." Submitted by: Boadicea Source: EOnline | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Date: 01/22/2010 True Blood spoiler: Who Has the Hotter Werewolves, True Blood or Twilight?OK, Nelsan, spoil us silly. What can you tell us about season three? According to the star, "The werewolves are coming in. They're going to be good. Also, I get a love interest, and I have a mama now, played by Alfre Woodard. She's completely insane, so we'll see where that storyline goes." Lafayette's mom is insane? Oh, we cannot wait to see how those scenes play out! So, if it's true that we'll be learning a lot more about Lafayette this year, including his mom and a new boyfriend, how does that tie into the overall mythology of the show? According to Nelsan, "It doesn't, because Lafayette's storyline is completely new, considering that I'm not supposed to be in the series. Lafayette was supposed to die the seventh episode of the first season. If I have a tie into the mythology it's my tie into the vampires. I'm Eric's henchman (Alexander Skarsgård) now. So that's my tie to the mythology, but my other storyline is human, and it's all new." Eric's henchman, huh? There are worse jobs a guy could have! As for the other man in Lafayette's life, well, that's going to be the delicious Kevin Alejandro, who tells us of his role, "I just started last week, and I honestly don't know a whole lot, but there's definitely an interest between myself and the character of Lafayette." Can't wait! Last but not least, we asked Nelsan whom he would like to see appear on the show and he told us that his pick would be Angelina Jolie, as a vampire queen. "She would slay the show." Excellent choice, sir! Submitted by: Boadicea Source: EOnline! | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Date: 01/20/2020 True Blood spoiler: viewers who suspected there might be fallout from Bill “donating” blood to save Sam’s life in the finale last September, go ahead and give yourself a gold star. The show’s boss, Alan Ball, tells me that in season 3, the hunks will forge “not just any connection, an erotic connection.” How erotic? Ball wouldn’t say. But at least he was more forthcoming with regard to another upcoming same-sex couple-to-be: Lafayette and his new love interest Jesus (played by Southland’s Kevin Alejandro). Bon Temps’ resident V peddler “is very guarded, and Jesus is a guy who is willing to knock down some of those guards,” he says. “[Though] it’s not an easy relationship, they have a lot in common. They’re both shamans of sorts, healers, so there’s a reason they get brought together. “But,” he emphasizes again, “it’s not going to be easy.” So, thoughts on a Bill/Sam flirtation? Too far-out or not far enough? And do you even care, so long as the subplot leaves Sookie free to explore her attraction to Eric? | Date: 01/18/2009 True Blood spoiler: It also sounds like they'll be plenty of sex in the season premiere, with Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell) ended up in a backwoods Arkansas motel room with a familiar face. "It should be curious and confusing to viewers," teases Trammell. But Ryan Kwanten says his character, Jason Stackhouse, ups Sam by one. "My character wakes up in the first episode with two women beside him," Ryan boasts. The actor's also looking forward to seeing Jason enjoy a more meaningful romance. "He will find love in the werewolf world, and love is a pretty unknown concept for him." Alfre Woodard joins the series as Ruby Jean Reynolds, mother to Lafayette and aunt to Tara. Alfre describes her character as "nuts. She's not going to be a person that the audience loves. She's not very accepting of Lafayette, which is fun to play." | Date: 01/11/2010 True Blood spoiler: 'True Blood': Joe Manganiello DishesOn His Alcide Workout And How Facebook Landed Him The RoleJoe, who's currently back on the "OTH" set in Wilmington, North Carolina filming another episode as Tric bartender Owen (woo!), told the podcast all about his role as Sookie's new, buff, wolf-y love interest on the HBO series. "It's a lot of action, a lot of fun, a lot of facial hair," he said. Joe credits his technologically savvy fans for helping him get the role. "Facebook and the internet were integral to me getting this part. There are 'True Blood' bloggers that were fans of the books. They knew this character was coming up — that it appeared in book three — so they knew it was coming up for season 3. They would blog about who should play the character, and some of these bloggers put up pictures of me." After a friend brought the posts to Joe's attention — "that is really what got me into the books" — he called his agents and managers and began posting the links on his Facebook page. When someone who was friends with the "True Blood" casting people mentioned Joe's campaign to them, "it got me in," he said. Initially, Joe read in front of Alan Ball and the "True Blood" producers for another character, also a werewolf ("It was probably the best audition I've had in a while," he said) and was scheduled for a chemistry read with star Anna Paquin in January, but he began getting other offers and put pressure on the "True Blood" producers to give him a more timely decision. They brought him back for a third reading (for Alcide this time), and he landed the part a few hours later. Of getting the role, he said, "Everybody has those daydreams. Everybody rehearses their Oscar speech in the mirror. You imagine yourself being in those positions and... the struggle is to keep yourself in check because it hasnt happened yet." But once you get the call, Joe said "You almost, like, black out for a few seconds because you cant believe whats happening. And then all of a sudden this wave of emotion comes, and you realized that all that stuff you tried to keep yourself from daydreaming about rushes in like a flood and you cant believe you're there, you got it." While shooting doesn't begin until next week, Joe said he's been working hard since he learned that he got the role. "The work has started for me with all the dialect, the workouts, the physical stuff, the prep work, the research. It's already going. Its full-blown — it's already a full-time job for me." Right now, Joe's doing what he calls his "werewolf workout," which includes 45 minutes of cardio every morning before he eats, weight training in the afternoon, and consuming lots of protein. He's in good hands — he's training with the guy who trained Hugh Jackman for "X-Men." "In this day and age, a werewolf can't be out of shape," Joe said. The podcast also covered Joe's return to "OTH," hanging out with fanboys at conventions, and the sitcom pilot he shot for NBC called "100 Questions." Which show are you more excited to see Joe on: "One Tree Hill" or "True Blood"? Submitted by: Boadicea Source: Hollywood Crush | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Date: 01/08/2010 True Blood spoiler: Rhetorical questions aside, the writer is confident that, just as his new hire won him over, he’ll win over viewers. “We were looking for a guy who was big, sexy, decent and heroic, with some darkness,” he says. “And [Manganiello] showed us all of that in the audition.” In fact, the One Tree Hill alum so impressed the boss that he wasn’t asked to take a chemistry test with leading lady Anna Paquin. “We do that when we have four or five options,” Ball explains, “and in this instance, I felt like Joe was the only one who came close to what the character needed to be.” Though Alcide isn’t introduced as a potential suitor for Sookie — “As in the book, he’s helping her find [her kidnapped boyfriend] Bill,” Ball notes, “and he has a business reason for owing Eric a favor” — one (bad) thing leads to an (incredibly sexy) other. “He’s there with her during a very painful time in her life — and his life, actually. And they’re thrown into some pretty intense situations together. “And hello, he’s hot!” he adds with a laugh. “And hello, so is she. Two hot people in some intense situations and, for whatever reasons, their significant others are not there… they’re human.” Well, that last part may be a stretch. But it’s clear what Ball is saying. The question now is, how do you feel about what he’s saying? Should the show have spent a season exploring the Bill/Sookie/Eric triangle before making it a square? Or, given that OK, yeah, Manganiello is pretty appealing, are you looking at this as a “the more, the merrier” scenario? Sound off below — and don’t be afraid to go for the jugular! | Date: 01/04/2010 True Blood spoiler: With A New 'Southland' Boyfriend For Lafayette According to The Hollywood Reporter, everybody's favorite cross-dressing short order cook Lafayette Reynolds (Nelsan Ellis) is the latest to find love on "True Blood." The foul-mouthed antihero and occasional drug pusher is set to fall for Jesus, a young Latino orderly played by "Southland" star Kevin Alejandro. In "True Blood," Jesus is an orderly that is taking care of Lafayette's mother Ruby Jean, who will be played by the previously confirmed Alfre Woodard. Alejandro is expected to appear in "almost every episode" of the third season of "True Blood," but the actor will still maintain his job as a series regular on "Southland." Thanks to the show's recent move from NBC to TNT, shooting on "Southland" is currently on hold, affording Alejandro with enough availability to head to Bon Tempes for season three of the HBO vampire series. Of course, the upcoming relationship between Lafayette and Jesus is just one of many romantic flings on the way for season three of "True Blood." It was previously announced that Eric will have a relationship with one of his human employees, while Sookie will forge an electric connection with a werewolf named Alcide (Joe Manganiello). Jason is set to fall for the mysterious Crystal (Lindsay Pulsipher), while Tara will find some vampire loving of her own in the form of Franklin Mott (James Frain). All in all, it sounds like the third season of "True Blood" is going to be a regular old love fest, don't you think? Submitted by: Boadicea Source: MTV's Hollywood Crush | |||||||||||||||||||||

Alejandro continues to be attached as a regular to "Southland," which recently moved from NBC to TNT. Because of the cable network's plan to air the 13 produced episodes of the cop drama, starting January 12, before making a decision whether to order a second season, Alejandro can accommodate "Blood" while keeping his obligation to "Southland." Alejandro co-starred on "Shark," "Drive," "Ugly Betty" and recently had a recurring role on "Weeds." | Date: 12/29/2009 True Blood spoiler: Will your Alcide be different from the Alcide in the books? JOE MANGANIELLO: Alan Ball and I had a conversation about that at one of my auditions. I think it’s up in the air. I know that, at least initially, fans of the book will be pleased with my character. What’s your take on Alcide? MANGANIELLO: He’s really big. He’s giant. When Sookie first meets him, she opens the door and looks up, and then has to look up some more. So there’s this giant presence standing in the doorway with dark hair and dark features. He’s strong and protective. He comes from a construction background; his father is in the construction business. He’s heroic and romantic. I don’t think it’s a secret that he has a broken heart when he shows up. He had a really rough go of this relationship with Debbie Pelt, so there’s a lot of friction there. Debbie’s doing a lot of things to get back at Alcide. How long are you committed to the show for? MANGANIELLO: Right now we’ve just talked about this season. What can Alcide offer Sookie that Bill and Eric can’t? MANGANIELLO: Warm flesh and blood. That’s the neat thing about my character: Although he’s not entirely human, he is flesh and blood. He has a lifespan. In the books he hugs Sookie and she feels his skin and it’s just radiating heat. So I think the fact that he has some kind of sun burnt heat-radiating skin is just completely different. It’s [similar to when] she met Bill and what a relief it was for her to not to be able to hear his thoughts. Are you ready to be thrust into the Eric/Sookie/Bill fan frenzy? MANGANIELLO: For me it’s fun. I could see how if I was a 100-pound Hollywood actress it would probably be pretty scary, but I’m a big guy, so people don’t necessarily scare me in that way. With that said, I’ve had to go to the police a couple of times for stalkers. Really? MANGANIELLO: They were really big… I don’t know how I want to describe it but they were guys. I’ve had two guy stalkers that I’ve had to go to the cops about. But other than that I think it’s a blast. It’s so fun to get caught up in that. It’s so fun to have fans care that much. It’s that whole Comic-Con, fanboy crowd. I love that. I started my career in Spider-Man, so I’m completely familiar with them and I love that kind of stuff. And you hear about love triangles all of the time, it’s going to be interesting to see how the love square works out. Submitted by: Boadicea Source: The Ausiello Files
| Date: 12/28/2009 True Blood spoiler: How did you find out that you won the role? JOE MANGANIELLO: I had three meetings with Alan Ball. [After the last one], I got a call from my agent and manager. And whenever you get a call from your agent and manager, you have a pretty good idea that something good is about to happen. What was your reaction when they told you? MANGANIELLO: I’m not afraid to admit that I started crying. I was just so excited. It’s a dream come true. When I was a little kid, the nun at my elementary school said if you pray for something hard enough, it’ll happen. And I would pray every day with all of my heart that God would turn me into a werewolf. And when it didn’t happen, I kind of thought, “You know what? Maybe this stuff doesn’t work. Maybe I’m getting gypped.” So here it is 25 years later and my prayers got answered and I’m going to be a werewolf. What was it about being a werewolf that appealed to you? MANGANIELLO: I just loved Halloween. When I was 4, my mother dressed me up as a vampire and brought me to a haunted house. When I think about it now, bringing a 4-year-old kid to a haunted house is pretty intense. There was a vampire in the haunted house that jumped out of a coffin and I went up and tried to climb into the coffin with him. He wound up picking me up and putting me in the coffin with him and closing the lid. I [just] always liked monsters. There was something interesting about having this thing inside of you that you can’t control that comes out when you get angry. There’s something cathartic about the idea of having a beast inside you. Are you a fan of the show? MANGANIELLO: Huge fan. I’ve seen every episode. Have you met Anna Paquin yet? MANGANIELLO: Not yet. They wanted me to read with her. That was going to be my final audition, a chemistry read with Anna. But she wasn’t available so they had me come in by myself… I think it’s going to be great. I’ve seen a ton of her movies going all the way back to The Piano. I’m excited. When do you start shooting? MANGANIELLO: Late January, so I’ve got some time. Every day right now is all about the Werewolf Workout. It consists of Krav Maga, which is an Israeli fighting technique, and Cross Fit, which is kind of a gnarly crazy high-intensity workout. And I’m doing a little bit of weights in between. Was this something Alan Ball asked you to do? MANGANIELLO: No. This is something I wanted to do on my own. I’m a big guy to begin with; I work out a lot anyway. In my mind, I see the character as having a big chest, big arms — ripped the way an animal would be. Vampires have a supernatural strength to them, so you can have a vampire that is a little slighter. But a werewolf is this big, powerful, half man, half animal. I want to get as close to that as I possibly can. Wait, there’s more! In the second part of my Q&A, Manganiello tackles the hottest topics of all: How will Alan Ball’s Alcide differ from Charlaine Harris’ Alcide? How long is he committed to True Blood for? And should Sookie-Bill and Sookie-Eric fans be worried? Look for those answers (and more!) tomorrow morning! Submitted by: Boadicea Source: The Ausiello Files | |||||||||||||||||||||

| Date: 12/24/2009 True Blood spoiler:
Fans of Charlaine Harris' books will be familiar with the werewolf Alcide Heveraux, another love interest for Anna Paquin's Sookie. He will be played by actor Joe Manganiello, who has had recurring roles on One Tree Hill and How I Met Your Mother. Alcide's casting information calls him articulate and heroic, but a little rough around the edges. He helps Sookie in her search for Bill, but he has a psycho girlfriend named Debbie Pelt, who is a fascinating but much hated character in the books. Executive producer Alan Ball said at the Paley Center writers event that he was enjoying looking for the right actress to play Debbie, but he has yet to cast her. Another werewolf will be played by Aussie actor Grant Bowler from Ugly Betty and Lost. His character, Coot, is the leader of a biker gang that tortures Bill and gets high on V. We will also be meeting a few new vampires, including Russell, the vampire king of Mississippi. Denis O'Hare has been cast in this role–look for him to have issues with Evan Rachel Wood's Queen Sophie-Anne. Russell has a boyfriend named Talbot, who was described in the casting call as being an "intensely beautiful vampire with an acerbic sense of humor who loves to cook despite vampires' inherent lack of cooking talents." Greece-born actor Theo Alexander will be playing Talbot. It seems as though Tara is getting over her prejudice towards fangs (and her sadness over the death of Eggs) because she will be forming an instant connection with a sexy vampire named Franklin Mott. James Frain of The Tudors is taking on this role. Eric will also find himself in a new romance, with Yvetta, a Czech dancer at Fangtasia. Natasha Alam, an actress from Uzbekistan who has appeared on several episodes of The Bold and the Beautiful, will be the much-envied woman sharing intimate moments with Alexander Skarsgard. Jason Stackhouse spent much of Season 1 naked and bed-hopping, and most of Season 2 buttoned up and abstinent (until that little incident in a later episode with Reverend Newlin's wife, Sarah). The new character Crystal Norris seems to indicate that Jason has reverted to his womanizing ways. Crystal will be played by Lindsay Pulsipher from Patrick Swayze's A&E series, The Beast. She is a barefoot, sundress-wearing woman who has electric chemistry with Jason. At the end of Season 2, shapeshifter Sam Merlotte set off in search of his real family, which will take him to Arkansas. There he finds his younger brother, Tommy Mickens, played by Marshall Allman of Prison Break. Tommy works at a tire depot and acts suspicious when Sam first meets him, probably because the Mickens family seems to be in debt with many people in town. The fact that they are shapeshifters might also have something to do with it. Melinda, Sam's biological mother who is said to be trashy-looking and constantly hungover, will be played by Tony-nominated actress J. Smith-Cameron. Melinda is married to Joe Lee Mickens, a dirt poor, badly educated man, for which Cooper Huckabee has been cast. We will finally be meeting the sure-to-be sassy woman who raised flamboyant fry cook Lafayette. Emmy-award winning actress Alfre Woodard has been cast as Ruby Jean Reynolds, who is an intensely religious woman. She is also somewhat deranged and being cared for in a private facility. One of the nurses there is an attractive and good-natured Latino man named Jesus Velasquez, who seems to be a likely candidate for Lafayette's love interest that Alan Ball has been teasing. This role has not yet been cast. Shannon Lucio from The O.C. and Prison Break has been cast as Caroline Compton, Bill's wife from his human life in the Civil War era. She will feature in at least one important flashback scene, in which Bill returns home after being turned into a vampire. His wife accosts him with a shotgun, believing him to be an intruder, but then she realizes that it is her long-lost husband whom she thought to be dead. Fans will also be pleased to know that young Danish actor Allan Hyde will be reprising his role as the 2,000-year old vampire Godric, whose wisdom and gentleness made his sacrifice in episode 9, "I Will Rise Up," one of the most emotional scenes of the series. He died on the hotel rooftop in Dallas when he met the sun, so he will probably be appearing in flashbacks with Eric. Just as Season 2 had separate storylines going on in Dallas and Bon Temps, all of these character descriptions paint a story of Season 3 with many of the regulars spread out through Arkansas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Question: Thanks for all the True Blood casting news! Do you have any other scoop on season 3? –JKH Ausiello: It’s happening: Lafayette is getting a boyfriend! A True insider tells me that Alan Ball is quietly searching for a sexy Latino actor in his 30s to play a lust interest for everyone’s favorite same-gender-lovin’ blood dealer. True Blood already has a ridiculously sprawling cast filled with vampires, shapeshifters, were-vampires, shape-wolves, and drunken hayseeds (the most dangerous of all!), but it seems like every day brings with it a new casting notice for Season 3. Who are all these new people? Who will they be playing? And most importantly, how naked will Alan Ball make them get? Here’s Movieline’s handy-dandy guide to help you make sense of it all: THE LOVE INTERESTS Affiliation: Werewolf Backstory: One of the most anticipated new roles, as the courteous Alcide becomes a love interest for Sookie later in the series. (Say what you will about Sookie having too many love interests too soon, but you have to admire the girl’s commitment to interspecies diversity.) Chances of Getting Naked: By the time these two get together, Anna Paquin’s breast-baring will have lost its novelty value. Someone’s gotta pick up the slack. Affiliation: Vampire Backstory: Franklin has a lot to live up to, as he’ll be replacing the oft-objectified Eggs as Tara’s new main squeeze. Chances of Getting Naked: Described in the casting notice as “sexy, sexy, sexy, sexy.” (In casting parlance, that fourth “sexy” means the auditioning actor has to slate, read, and submit to an in-the-room improv exercise that involves manscaping and cupped genitals.) Affiliation: Human Backstory: Bill’s Civil War wife, who he abandoned after he was turned after he was turned into a vampire. Chances of Getting Naked: Did they actually get naked during the Civil War? I always thought they mourned the loss at Fort Sumter, then engaged in heavy petting through a sheet. Affiliation: Human Backstory: The church pastor who counsels Lettie Mae, Tara’s mother. Chances of Getting Naked: Says the casting notice: “He’s a bit uncomfortable when Lettie Mae’s hug goes on too long.” As are we. Let’s end it there. THE EXTENDED FAMILY Affiliation: Human Backstory: I repeat: Alfre Woodard is playing Lafayette’s mother. I can only hope they call each other “hooker” and start removing earrings when family spats get too heated. Chances of Getting Naked: I mean, after that Desperate Housewives arc and the cancellation of Three Rivers, a girl’s gotta put food at the table, but I’m thinking not. Affiliation: Shapeshifter Backstory: Sam’s brother. Chances of Getting Naked: When the casting notice for your part has the somehow quaint-sounding term “BACKSIDE NUDITY” in capital letters, you’re getting naked. Affiliation: Shapeshifter Backstory: Sam’s dirt-poor, hungover, trashy-looking mother. Chances of Getting Naked: I’m betting that a low-cut, Cheeto-stained blouse is as far as we’re going here. Affiliation: Shapeshifter Backstory: Sam’s father. Chances of Getting Naked: Only if we’re getting an exciting flashback to Sam’s conception, where his parents morph-mated as birds, pigs, and adorably spooning okapi. THE NEW BLOOD Affiliation: Werewolf Backstory: The leader of a group of dangerous “were-bikers.” This show. Chances of Getting Naked: High. Bowler is Australian, and that’s simply what they do. Just ask Ryan Kwanten. Affiliation: Vampire Backstory: The gay vampire king of Mississippi Chances of Getting Naked: No need, when you’re flanked by… Affiliation: Vampire Backstory: Russell’s hunky, sarcastic boy-toy. Chances of Getting Naked: Described as an “intensely beautiful male vampire [with] the buff good looks of an underwear model.” Count on him taking a nudity bullet for Denis O’Hare. THE PROMOTION Affiliation: Vampire Backstory: Formerly just a recurring member of True Blood’s sprawling cast, Bauer’s bisexual vampire’s been upgraded to regular status. Chances of Getting Naked: Like a Scientology war bride, it’s impossible for a True Blood cast member to sign an ironclad contract without knowing exactly what’s expected in return. | Date: 12/15/2009 True Blood spoiler: 'True Blood'fills Alcide role
The "How You Met Your Mother" hunk has landed the recurring part of Alcide, a hot and sexy alpha male werewolf. Meanwhile, it's been a parents casting week on Alan Ball's vampire drama. The latest to join the series for an arc is Cooper Huckabee who will play Sam's (Sam Trammell) dad Joe Lee Mickens. This follows the Monday castings of J. Smith-Cameron as Sam's estranged mother Melinda Mickens and of Alfre Woodard as Lafayette's (Nelsan Ellis) mom. Manganiello also had a memorable arc on "One Tree Hill" playing a bartender dating Brooke (Sophia Bush). The actor, whose credits also include a recurring role on "ER" and a part in "Spider-Man 3," is repped by BRS. Major new cast additions to "True Blood" for season three include Denis O'Hare, Marshall Allman, Theo Alexander and Grant Bowler. There has been a slew of bit part casting on the show over the past week, including actors Shannon Wells, C.C. Sheffield ("The and the Beautiful") and Natasha Alam. Actress-model Natasha Alam (The Bold and the Beautiful) is joining the season 3 cast in the potentially recurring role of Yvetta, Eric’s new dancer at Fangtasia, sources confirm to me exclusively. Eric engages in a sexual relationship with his newest employee, which, if I’m not mistaken, is a flagrant violation of Fangtasia’s super-strict sexual harassment policy. (I made a funny.) In other True Blood casting news, character actor Gregg Daniel (NYPD Blue, Desperate Housewives) has been tapped to play Reverend Daniels. Tara’s mom turns to the Reverend for, um, comfort. | Date: 12/14/2009 True Blood spoiler: 'Tudors' star is Franklin Mott!
Tudors star James Frain has just been cast in the heavily recurring role of Franklin Mott, Tara’s over-protective vampire squeeze, sources confirm to me exclusively. The English actor, whose TV credits include recurring roles on Invasion (as Eli) and 24 (as Paul Raines), will debut in the second episode of the show’s upcoming third season. The casting breakdown for the role describes Franklin as a tall, dark, and handsome vampire who seems to have an “immediate and torrid” connection to Tara. In the books, Franklin is essentially Tara’s sugar daddy, but I’m guessing Alan Ball is taking the character in a different direction. My question for you: On a rebound relationship scale of 1 to 10, where does Frain’s Franklin fall? Submitted by: Boadicea Source: Ausiello Files

The Emmy-winning actress has been tapped to guest star on Alan Ball's vampire drama "True Blood" as the mother of Lafayette Reynolds (Nelsan Ellis), the cook at Merlotte's who got busted for selling vampire blood and held captive and tortured by Eric (Alexander Skarsgard). Since Lafayette and Tara (Rutina Wesley) are cousins, it means that Sookie's best friend would be getting a visit from her aunt. Woodard, repped by ICM and D/F Management, recently joined TNT's dramedy pilot "Delta Blues" in a co-starring role opposite Jason Lee. “There's more of people with different agendas,” Skarsgard – who had a breakout season as his not-always-bad boy vampire Eric emerged as a contender for Sookie Stackhouse’s heart and soul – told TVGuideMagazine.com. “Sam's got his stuff to deal with, his background and who he is, trying to figure that out. There might be some more tension between the vampire kingdoms and queendoms and they might introduce other creatures than just vampires.” “There's a lot of new characters that will be introduced,” confirms Wesley. “We've got some werewolves that are coming in. Everyone is back now, so it'll be interesting to see how Tara deals with everything that happens with the last season. She's got a lot grieving she has to do, but I have a feeling that someone's going to come in and sweep her off of her feet. Then we've got Sookie there to help her out as well. They're making a lot of people the focus. That's the one thing that I love about being on the show – that it's truly an ensemble. All of us have really good and meaty stuff to work on.” Skarsgard said that Eric’s ancient history is going to be further explored during the season as well. “In Season 2 there was a flashback. We see when Eric was a Viking, and there will be another flashback. We'll see Eric and someone else as a tag team – I don't want to reveal from what era, but it's a couple of really fun scenes.” “It's amazing because he's been around for a thousand years and lived all over the world, so you can put him in any situation in any country,” said Skarsgard. “I want more of the stuff from his earlier days when he was in Scandinavia, during the Viking days. I'd love that because you don't see much of that in movies or on television from that era – and obviously because I'm from Sweden I'm quite fascinated by it. It's my heritage, that culture with the Vikings, and so hopefully we'll get to see a little more of that.” There are also some guest stars waiting in the wings: Wesley said she’s heard that actor Don Swayze, brother of the late Patrick Swayze, will appear on the show, and Skarsgard says there’s a well-known name who just might be making a visit to Bon Temps. “There's one that I'm hoping we can get towards the end of Season 3,” he revealed. “It's not official yet and something I'm pretty excited about – someone that I'd very, very much enjoy working with.” Submitted by: Boadicea Source: TV Guide Magazine

Eric's sidekick Pam on "True Blood" is getting a promotion. Kristin Bauer, who plays blonde vampire Pam, Eric's (Alexander Skarsgard) wingwoman at vampire bar Fangtasia, has been promoted to a regular on the HBO series. Bauer had guest starred on Alan Ball's vampire drama for the first two seasons, appearing in a total of 11 episodes. Ball recently hinted that may have a meaty story line in store for Pam for Season 3 when she may get into a lesbian relationship. Bauer, who most recently co-starred on the CBS drama pilot "House Rules," is repped by the Paul Kohner Agency and Kritzer/Levine/Wilkins/Griffin. Crystal wanders off before Jacob has a chance to get to know her----though he soon will have a chance to meet her again in the near future. RECURRING ROLE "Female Reporter", any ethnicity, 20s - 30s. She is a pretty and hard-nosed TV news journalist who is trying to get to the bottom of a story about wild animals supposedly biting people in the town of Bon Temps. But they clearly seem to be shielding some information about the case from the public. "Ruby Jean Reynolds", African-American, 40s - 50s. Ruby is a mentally-ill and emotionally unstable woman who lives in an institution. She is very religious and extremely old-fashioned in her moral views. She expresses an overt disgust for gay people. He goes over to her to see if she is okay, but it turns out that this woman is actually a full-fledged Nazi, and he is met by a sudden attack. PRINCIPLE ROLE "Shane", Caucasian, 20s - 30s. Shane is an alcoholic and impoverished redneck guy who is very brash and callous toward other people. He spends most of his time at Merlotte's bar getting inebriated with his best friend Kris. INSIDER had a flying visit last week from likable lad Grant Bowler, who rightly talked up his latest (and arguably greatest) Stateside gig, True Blood.Unable to contain his excitement about the role, Bowler tipped this columnist into the news. "Mate, it's HBO and it's the King ... it's the chance to work for an Oscar-winner [series creator Allan Ball] and alongside an Oscar-winner [Anna Paquin]," he said. It's a great break for the 41-year-old Bowler, who has struggled with bad luck in the US for the past four years, largely because of directorial whims and the writers' strike. | Date: 11/03/2009 True Blood spoiler: Bill won't be back for a while.Ball confirmed that the arc of Bill's kidnapping will last "about six episodes." That sounds like just enough time to put Sookie (Anna Paquin) through the wringer, but not enough to try viewers' patience. Plus, we'll probably still get to see Bill deal with his captors in episodes 1-5. Meet the Merlottes. Shape-shifter Sam (Sam Trammell) will find his family this year, and Tucker gets to write their characters a lot in episode two. "I'm getting to write Sam's family, which is a lot of fun, and, really, I feel really satisfying as a character arc," she said. "I really am glad that he's taking this journey and he's learning about himself. I find that interesting. They aren't the brightest people, maybe. At least they appear that way. They're fairly dysfunctional, but like anybody else, they have their good things about them and not-so-good things. They're still getting to know each other. Sam's still getting to know them, and so are we." Werewolves sink their teeth into Louisiana. Werewolves are coming to True Blood, and Ball offered a preview of what his wolf-people will look like. "They're just wolves," Ball said. "It's just people who can turn into wolves, but they're slightly bigger and much stronger. Their eyes glow orange a little bit." There's even more supernatural stuff. It's not just vampires and werewolves. Woo is most excited about the expanding world of season three. "The entire world is going to get a lot bigger," Woo said. "Not only the human world, but in Sookie's eyes, she's going to see the whole supernatural world. Luckily, since this show is through Sookie's eyes, as an audience we'll get to see a much larger supernatural world." Sookie will explore her own powers. Sookie's powers have gone from simple telepathy to some kind of hand-glowing power. Tucker confirmed that Sookie's powers continue to expand in season three. "I think that Sookie is conscious of her abilities more this season than she's been, and she's questioning them more," Tucker said. "We're going to be exploring that more this season." Meet the Vampire King. Ball said the Vampire King of Mississippi is coming in season three. He provides a contrast to Sophie-Anne, the Vampire Queen of Louisiana (Evan Rachel Wood). "He's older," Ball said. "He's much more mature. He's much more methodical and grounded. She's kind of crazy. To me, she's kind of like Paris Hilton/Lindsay Lohan, where she has a very short attention span and she's very, very egomaniacal and very self-obsessed and doesn't really think about her actions, whereas the Vampire King is very much an adult. He has an agenda. He has things he wants to achieve. I think he's much more formidable than she is." Jason will stay out of trouble. In two seasons, Sookie's brother, Jason (Ryan Kwanten), has been accused of murder and got caught up in a cult. Season three will find him keeping a low profile. "I think Jason's path this season is actually about not getting into trouble," Tucker said. "It's about trying to stay out of trouble. I think it's going well for him." Sophie-Anne might get into more trouble. Wood is signed to return for more episodes in season three. Since her recreational activities include orchestrating the sale of vampire blood, things could go very badly for her. "Well, Sophie Anne, when last we left her, she was sort of behind this selling of V as a recreational drug on the streets, pretty much," Ball said. "That's not something a vampire authority figure should be doing. If higher-up vampire authority figures figure that out, they're not going to be happy." There's a new biker gang in town. Season three will introduce a biker gang called Coot's F--k You Crew. Tucker said the new characters are still evolving and won't be what you expect. "The one thing I will say is that they are very mysterious," Tucker said. "They're a group who's been around a lot longer than you think. I don't want to say too much about them right now, because I think that we are in the early stages of figuring that out." A new character called Tommy Mickens brings the hurt. Woo is writing the new character of Tommy Mickens, who will make a huge impact on our favorite characters. "Tommy Mickens is someone I don't want to reveal too much about, because I don't want to ruin the surprise," Woo said. "He's a completely new character, but he plays very prominently in the emotional life of at first one and then, later, several other of our characters. He'll be the first domino to push the rest." Headgear plays a major role. Helmets have become a joke in the writer's room. Tucker explained how the writers became aware they were relying too much on protective headgear. "There've been several moments that we've been pitching things and thought, 'Oh, well, maybe she could be wearing a helmet, and that would protect her. Maybe he could wear a helmet in that scene,'" Tucker recalled. "Suddenly we realized we had a whole bunch of characters wearing helmets for no particular reason. So we thought, oh, that's the theme of the season." Sorry, ladies, Eric is still a tease. Fans keep demanding more screen time for Eric (Alexander Skarsgard), but the writers won't indulge them. "You know, what's funny is that he's in the first two books; he's a fairly minor character in Sookie's universe," Tucker said. "There's a lot of fan pressure that they're supposed to be this big romantic thing, which actually in Charlaine [Harris]'s books doesn't happen until much, much further down. I think if we did that, we'd probably bore them all to death. I think part of the magic of Eric is some of the mystery of Eric and the inaccessibility of Eric. I think you don't want to turn them into the nice romantic love interest who's in every scene. I think his danger is important, so not just throwing him up whenever somebody wants to see his bare chest is actually a more disciplined approach." | Date: 10/31/2009 True Blood spoiler: This Week In HollywoodlandBEVERLY HILLS—This week in Hollywoodland was filled with surprises, new tell-all books, casting rumors, a prince threw a bash at the famed Beverly Hills Hotel and a Hollywood and Broadway legend was honored. News came on a “True Blood” message board that the charismatic and talented Eric Braeden was being considered for a pivotal role as the supreme vampire on the hit HBO series. This role is for the vampire who is the leader of all vampires. The rumor was too good to be true. Or is it? Emmy-winner Braeden who has portrayed Victor Newman on “The Young and the Restless” for almost 30 years to date has recently renewed his contract with the soap. Last week Braden’s representative told Canyon News, “Eric has agreed to return to ‘Y&R.’ This week when the rep was contacted for a statement about the rumors flying fast and furious online of Eric’s possible alliance with “True Blood.” The same statement was given.
For now we’ll file this story under a rumor. Though it was too big of a story to go without some investigating, as Eric Braeden’s appearance on the hit show would put the already successful series over the top to mega-hit status in the time it would take for Sookie to decide to marry Bill. | Date: 10/29/2009 True Blood spoiler: Attention, True Blood Fans: You'll Get Your Werewolves After All
Alan tells us that not only does Alcide appear, but that he's bringing his backstory from the books with him: "Alcide Herveaux is going to be on TV. We haven't cast him yet, but I believe he appears first in the third episode. Alcide is already in love with someone, a very bad woman named Debbie Pelt. But will he fall in love with some else? It's too soon to say." We learned a great deal more last night at the fantastic True Blood writers' event hosted by the Paley Center. Among other things, there was a promise from Ball that one of your fan-fave actors won't be marginalized on the TV series (even if Charlaine Harris does have it in for his character in the books), and crucial info about where/when/how you can next see Alexander Skarsgård nekkid. Here's what we learned about this very, very important question: News for Team Bill: According to Ball, the bad news for Team Bill is that there probably won't be a Bill-Sookie (Anna Paquin) wedding this season, even after Bill's sweet finale marriage proposal, but the good news is that the show won't leave Bill hanging: "Stephen Moyer will not be marginalized...Bill and Sookie might go through some rough patches that last maybe a little longer than Team Bill fans might like. But Bill and Sookie have a connection that will never die." News for Team Eric: Fans of Skarsgård will have a lot to like in season three. From Eric's humble beginnings in season one, when, as Ball puts it, "He was a prisoner of that wig," he's graduated to a front and center role in season three. To be specific, he'll be front, center and naked. Ball said, "Alex has indicated a willingness to go there, and I believe he appears without most of his clothes in the very first episode [of season three]." (Good work, vampire people!) News for Team Everybody Else: Season three will be about "identity," as the various characters figure out who they are: Sam Merlotte (Sam Trammell) investigates his biological parents and his shapeshifter heritage, Sookie (Anna Paquin) "gets closer to the answer" of why she has that flashy fairy power—and why bro Jason (Ryan Kwanten) doesn't; and Jessica (Deborah Ann Woll) explores her newfound vampirism. As producer Raelle Tucker told us, "Jessica's going through an identity crisis, and needing to suck blood to survive doesn't make [being a teenager] any easier. But she's really finding who she is...but when you have fangs, there are some missteps along the way that can be quite dangerous." Which characters (from the books or from the show) do you most want to see front and center (and naked) in season three? And who do you think they should cast as Alcide? Tell us in the comments! | Date: 10/27/2009 True Blood spoiler: Fresh Blood
Advocate.com: What initially attracted you to the Sookie Stackhouse novels? Alan Ball: It was an impulse purchase and it was just so much fun. The minute I finished the first book, I wanted the second one; it was like crack. I got addicted. I guess it was somewhere around the third or fourth book where I thought, This just really holds up, I think this could be a great TV show. Were the gay metaphors something you envisioned immediately as you read the books? All that is in the books. Also, there are a lot of gay characters in the books as you get further and further into them. We'll be introducing some of those gay characters this new season. What other gay characters will be introduced in season 3? We'll be meeting the vampire king of Mississippi and his long, long-term companion -- and by long-term I mean really long-term -- Talbot. I think Lafayette may meet a love interest, and certainly Pam, who works with Eric, she's certainly got a lesbian vibe -- I don't know that that's all she is, but she certainly does seem to appreciate the women. What do you think it is about the vampire genre that’s so appealing to LGBT fans? I think it's certainly not a huge step for LGBT people to identify with any group of characters that are, as a group, outsiders, that mainstream society feels threatened by; that are fabulous and powerful and sexy and all of that stuff. Lesbian vampire queen Sophie-Anne is romantically linked to Sookie’s cousin, Hadley. Is there a possibility that the queen will also fall for Sookie? I think Sophie-Anne is definitely interested in Sookie; I don't believe it's for sexual or romantic reasons but she is definitely interested in Sookie and whatever it is about Sookie that is special beyond the realm of what is human, and that's something that we definitely will learn more about in the upcoming season. Denis O’Hare has just been cast as a regular for season 3. His character Russell Edgington, the vampire king of Mississippi, is gay in the books, so is this something we can expect to see in season 3? I think the kings and queens of the various states are aware of each other, and yes, he definitely knows who she is. Whether or not they end up in a scene together I can't really say; it depends on actors' availability and scheduling and those kinds of things. But they definitely are aware of each other. How much as writers do you stay true to the book series? I think we try to stay very true to the spirit of the book series. We have made changes. The books are all narrated by Sookie, so the books are basically all Sookie's story. We definitely have -- in fleshing out the other characters -- been creative. I think where we may not stay true to the books entirely, we do try to stay very true to the spirit of them. Do you and Charlaine discuss changes you have in mind for the character and story development on the show? No. Charlaine put it very succinctly at Comic-Con -- she said, "I don't tell Alan how to write his show and he doesn't tell me how to write my books." We have a very, very good relationship; a mutual respect and admiration relationship, and I think the books have certainly been good for the show and the show has certainly been good for the books, but they are two completely different mediums and I think we both respect the boundaries of that. You've said recently that a character will die in season 3. Will this story line follow the third book? I'm a little leery to answer these questions because if I say yes it just gives it away. For people who read the books, some things will not come as a surprise. But for people who don't read the books, it will be a surprise. Will we see Jason Stackhouse scantily clad again in season 3, considering how modest he was in season 2? Well, he was at church camp! [Laughs] There's no shortage of man candy on the show and Jason is back in Bon Temps and he may be up to his old ways. I can tell you that you'll definitely get to see a lot of Jason in the first few episodes, and by a lot, I mean a lot physically. [Laughs] Submitted by: Boadicea Source: The Advocate
| Date: 10/27/2009 True Blood spoiler: Acolytes of the Church of True Blood are likely finding their Sunday evenings a little bit lonelier ever since Bill, Sookie, Eric and the other flush horndogs of Bon Temps sealed their crypts for the season. But if you just can’t wait until next summer for a fresh round of bloodsucking and fangbanging to begin, perhaps your hunger can be satisfied with this list of casting notices for Season 3, leaked by SpoilerTV.com. But can they outdo the bathtime hand jobs and lesbian crotch-lunching that made Season 2 such a dependably erotic treat? We believe they can! | Date: 10/27/2009 True Blood spoiler:
OK, let's try this again: In just nine or 10 short months, True Blood returns to HBO for season three, but to tide us over during the looong wait, we've got our hands on a leaked casting call that offers a sneak peek of things to come. (Preproduction is already underway on the new episodes and filming is set to begin in early December.) Where's Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) been taken? Are there any familiar faces from the books in episode one of season three? And who's the new girl banging Eric (Alexander Skarsgård)? Here's what we can tell you... Vampires: Sookie's (Anna Paquin) fiancé-to-be Bill was kidnapped in the season-two finale, and when we pick up season three, we'll find him in the company of a courtly vampire named Talbot (as well as a quaint old Southern lady named Olivia). Talbot, by the way, is dating the vampire king of Mississippi. Ruh-roh! Other new vampires will include a looker named Franklin Mott, who takes a liking to Tara (Rutina Wesley). Werewolves? If Alcide Herveaux, the werewolf introduced in Charlaine Harris' Club Dead novel, is anywhere to be seen in the season-three premiere of True Blood, he's hiding under an assumed name. We do, however, have a possible dog we can offer you. And no, not the misbehaving Lothario kind of dog, the shape-shifting-into-a-sweet-mutt kind of dog. In the season-three premiere, titled "A Pack of Wolves," True Blood goes to Arkansas to find Sam Merlotte's (Sam Trammell) long-lost little brother, Tommy Mickens, and we're probably going to see Tommy's naked rear end, since the casting call notes that butt nudity is required for the role. We smell a sibling shape-shifter! Zombies? Jason Stackhouse (Ryan Kwanten) is going to canoodle with a couple of coeds who appear to have bullet holes in their heads. Are they the living dead, or is Jason cuh-razy? Tune in to find out. Strippers: For those of you invested in Alexander Skarsgård's Eric (and/or in Eric's relationship with Sookie), you should know there's a new girl in the Viking vamp's life. Eric's latest lovah is not going to be the telepathic Merlotte's waitress but instead someone named Yvette, a Czech-born stripper at Fangtasia. Man, nobody's going to like her one bit. Sorry, Yvette! Rednecks: There's a new gang of crazy white-trash bikers in town who like to assault vampires to feed their V addiction, and when they get their hands on a "vamper" we know and love, they start ripping him apart for the high. To which we can only say: True Blood, step away from the motorcycle clubs—you don't see them putting vampires on Sons of Anarchy, do you? Are you still a slavering True Blood addict, or did the lackluster final three episodes of last season cure your hunger a little bit? Submitted by: Boadicea Source: EOnline
| Date: 10/21/2009 True Blood spoiler: True Blood's Season 3 won't return until next summer, but we can still bring you the scoop on what's happening when the HBO series returns. "It's a crazy season," executive producer Alan Ball tells TVGuide.com. "It picks up right where we left off and things get weird really fast." As Ball already spilled, someone is going to die and we'll be pretty happy about it. Find out what else he teases, including the juicy relationship between Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) and Sookie (Anna Paquin), and the addition of some new characters. Also, get a few extra tidbits from your favorite shaggy dog, star Sam Trammell. Theme of Season 3: "It seems to be that it's about really embracing one's identity," Ball tells us. "Season 2 was more about how religions can make people do things that maybe they wouldn't do otherwise; it gives them the freedom to do things. This season is a lot about what it means to be who you are, or what you are." Sookie's background: "Sookie still doesn't know exactly what she is. She will get closer to figuring out why she has these random powers that show up when they do," says Ball. (Spoiler alert: In the books, Sookie discovers she has fairy blood running in her.) "She is definitely part of a different race," adds Ball. "In terms of fairies, like perky fairies with wings, like Tinkerbell, no, they're not like that. If it is fairies, they're fierce. They're not pretty, soft, glamorous, gossamery things. They're really, really, really powerful and primal creatures." Sookie and Eric: Sookie's been seeing visions of her and Eric getting — ahem — friendly. Will their romance actually progress, not just in her head? "I can definitely tell you [we'll see that] in the show. I don't know if it will necessarily be in Season 3. Of course they're going to come together, it's fated. It's not something that's going to happen right off the bat." Sam's real family: "There's some new shape-shifters who may be Sam's biological family," teases Ball. Adds Trammell, "As I understand it, I'm going to be trying to find my biological family, who put me up for adoption or abandoned me. I have a feeling they're going to be very creepy, sketchy, weird, shape-shiftery weirdos. They're going to be bad news." Sam's love life: "Can he ever trust a woman again? I don't know if he can, so he may have to just turn into an animal, stay an animal and seek love that way," jokes Trammell. "I hope he does, in all seriousness, but it could take a season or two for him to build up that confidence again." Who's coming back? "The Queen is coming back," Ball reveals. "Godric is coming back for an appearance, a flashback. There's some new vampires in town, there are some werewolves. We do have a lot of werewolves coming in, male and female, but we haven't started casting for the show yet." Submitted by: Boadicea Source: TV Guide | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Date: 10/13/2009 True Blood spoiler: How soon before we find out who took Bill on True Blood? — Dyan MICKEY: "We will discover who has Bill right off the bat in Season 3, but it's going to take the people on the show a little bit longer to find out," executive producer Alan Ball tells us. Sookie will even consider the possibility that he left of his own volition. "It's not easy for her," Ball says. "She feels really bad because she's not sure whether he just left because he was upset because she didn't say yes right off the bat. But in her heart she believes he was taken and she doesn't know who took him. She's going to fight to find him." Submitted by: Boadicea Source: TV Guide | |||||||||||||||||||||
| Date: 10/13/2009 True Blood spoiler: 'True Blood' News! Mike McMillian (A.K.A. Rev. Steve Newlin) Says His Character Will Be Back
A series centered around sexy, blood-loving vampires is bound to have an ample body count, but the gallons of bloodshed in the sophomore season of "True Blood" could have made even a surgeon queazy. Some deaths were for the better (Michelle Forbes' maenad Maryann) while others left us weepy (Mehcad Brooks' Eggs and Allan Hyde's Godric). But two faces we haven't seen the last of are the Fellowship of the Sun's conniving first couple Steve and Sarah Newlin. "I've been told he'll be back," actor Mike McMillian, who plays Reverend Steve, told MTV News of his character. Though the actor doesn't know when he and costar Anna Camp (did you catch her cameo in the "The Office" wedding?) will return, he has a few theories about how things might go down. "I think like any good villain he's going to go away and lick his wounds for a while. But I think he suffered major humiliation toward the end of season two, and now I would imagine the Stackhouses are even higher on his list. If it was personal before with his father being killed, then it's really personal now with the Stackhouses humiliating him." "True Blood" writers take note: Mike even has a suggestion for the timing of he and Anna's return. "Hopefully, it'll happen at a time when the audience is least expecting it," Mike said. "That's always the best time to bring them back—when something horrible is already going on for our hero, and then they gotta deal with these a--holes too." Want more Mike? Check out his interview with our brother blog, Splash Page, about his foray into the world of comics with a four-issue miniseries called "Lucid." (Yup, there's a vampire connection there. Go figure!) Milla Jovovich: Though she’s the heroine in theResident Evil flicks, haven’t her angular features and kickass bod always made you think “bitch on wheels”? Just me? Really? Well, she’s still been known to try out the odd shag from time to time. Katharine Isabelle: How perfect an option is this Supernatural alum? She’s gorgeous, snarky, and in the first of the Ginger Snaps movies, she didn’t just play a werewolf’s honey, she played the werewolf herself. Top that, Shakira! Shakira: Come to think of it, the hip-swiveling”She-Wolf” might not be a bad choice for the role. Certainly, her animal instincts are the stuff of legend. Then again, how would Alan Ball feel about a Debbie who talks like Charo? Sarah Brown: Though the Daytime Emmy winner just signed on to join The Bold and the Beautiful when her run on General Hospital is over, the CBS sudser is known to be cool about loaning out its cast — last season, they freed up Ashley Jones to play Daphne. Krysten Ritter: Once Veronica Mars‘ classmate, this romcom perennial (27 Dresses, Confessions of a Shopaholic) often wears an expression that makes me think she’s one broken nail away from a meltdown. Please, please, please, can’t we break that nail and see what happens? Katie Holmes: Okay, she finally got us to stop thinking of her as Joey Potter. Now she needs to get us to stop thinking of her as Mrs. Tom Cruise. Baring her metaphorical claws opposite a leading man with literal fangs might just do the trick. Henry Cavill: If The Tudors‘ other heartthrob can look that good in tights and frilly shirts, we can’t imagine he’d fare worse with back hair front and back. The question is, could he rock the role without an English accent? Benjamin Bratt: The former Cleaner star may seem a little long in the tooth to strike up the necessary chemistry with Anna Paquin, whose Sookie he helps search for Bill. But remember, her currently-MIA almost-fiance is hundreds of years older! Steven Strait: Since he’s modeled for Details and Vogue, it’s a given that the Stop-Loss and 10,000 BC vet has tall, dark and handsome down pat. But does he have the chops to pull off a compelling performance in canine chompers? Jeffrey Dean Morgan: Thanks to a little show on The CW as well as a certain Grey’s Anatomy “ghost” story, supernatural hoo-ha is old hat to Denny’s portrayer. Trouble is, coming off slightly mad, occasionally bad and potentially dangerous isn’t. (Confession: I never saw Morgan’s slightly mad, occasionally bad and potentially dangerous turn in Watchman.) Ben Browder: Part romantic lead, part action hero, the SyFy mainstay (Farscape, Stargate SG-1) could play Alcide in his sleep. But as with Bratt, his age could be an issue. Cam Gigandet: One glance at this Twilight vamp and you think, “Here comes trouble.” Unfortunately for Ball and Co., movie casting directors generally seem to also think, “Here comes our Next Big Thing.” So he’s about as likely to be available for hire as Eric is for breakfast. | Date: 09/18/2009 True Blood spoiler: True Blood: Season 3 Spoilers True blood may have wrapped up its second season but it left us with enough questions to ponder on until the show returns for season 3. Who took Bill? What is Sookie? Will Sam finally meet his real parents? What will happen to Jessica and Hoyt? We won't know for sure until True Blood returns next fall. It's going to be a long wait, nine excruciating months to be exact but, luckily, I've stumbled upon some spoilers to pass the time. Take note, however, that some of these spoilers are not confirmed by the network so read at your own risk. The Characters: Sookie She's not entirely human that's for sure. Series creator Alan Ball won't tell exactly what she is but assures fans that it will be revealed next season. "Sookie has a stronger genetic predisposition in another direction. People who have read the books know exactly what I'm talking about. People who haven't, it will be revealed," Ball explained. Based on the books, however, Sookie is a fairy. Eric The Viking vamp was missing for the most part of the second season finale but Alan Ball tells Entertainment Weekly there's a reason why and assures fans that Eric will be a prominent character in season 3. Lafayette We will be seeing more and more of Lafayette in season 3 as he gets vulnerable not just because he's afraid of Eric. He also gets a boyfriend! Andy He'll find out that he is related to somebody and it will totally shock him when he discovers who it is. Godric The vampire may have committed suicide by sunlight but he may still appear in the coming season in flashback scenes with Eric. Queen Sophie-Anne Queen Sophie-Anne may not have come across scary when she was first introduced in the second season but Ball says she will be in season 3. "You don't want to introduce a character you're going to see later and blow your wad up front. All I can say is keep watching. It will make sense," Ball explained of Queen Sophie-Anne who will return for the new season but not as a series regular. Shocking Plots: The Bombshell Secret Ever since Queen Sophie-Anne graced the second season of True Blood, Bill and Sookie fans have been haunted with a theory from the Charlaine Harris books that would certainly destroy their favorite vampire-human couple: that Bill is working for the Queen and he came to Bon Temps to seduce Sookie with ulterior motives. It's certainly an issue that would divide True Blood fans as this will push Sookie right into the arms of Eric, and while series creator Alan Ball hasn't really followed the novels to the letter, he isn't completely shutting out the idea either. "It's certainly something that I found really compelling in the books," Ball told Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello of Bill's deep dark secret. "I was like, 'Wow.' But I can't really tell you what I'm going to do story-wise. So much of the appeal of the show depends on the element of surprise." "I try to stay out of how the fans are responding to the show," he added. "I have to tell the story that I think is the most interesting story. Certainly, the main ingredient in drama is conflict and revelations. For every person who loves Bill and wants him and Sookie to just be in love always, there's another person who's like, 'I'm sick of Bill. He's such a wuss. I like Eric. He's dangerous.' Especially when you're working on a show like this with the kind of palette and the colors you use; you want it to be continually surprising and shocking. Not for the sake of being shocking, but that's part of the fun." Sookie and Eric, will they or won't they? Season 2 left fans with a cliffhanger that saw Bill being abducted just before Sookie was supposed to accept his marriage proposal. Now that Bill is seemingly and temporarily out of the picture, we are now left wondering if Eric and Sookie will finally get together in season 3. But Ball tells TV Squad, "I can't tell you if they're going to get together, because that's going to ruin the anticipation. But, if you've been following season two, he's definitely been doing things to make her more vulnerable and more susceptible to him. And he does want her, he's just not sure why. I think it's deeper than just, 'I want her because Bill Compton has her.' Although that's part of it, because Eric is a total alpha-dog." Casting News:

| Date: 09/14/2009 True Blood spoiler: Blood Bath: Televisionary Talks to "True Blood" Writer/Executive Producer Alan BallWritten by Jace | Monday, September 14, 2009I caught up with True Blood czar Alan Ball this morning to talk about last night's season finale, deconstruct the second season, and find out about what's coming up on Season Three of HBO's addictive vampire drama. In this exclusive one-on-one interview, Ball hints at what's on the horizon for Sookie and Bill, new creatures, Sam Merlotte's quest, Jessica, a possible romance for Lafayette, the Vampire King of Mississippi, Sophie-Anne, and much, much more. Ball also told me that the writing staff had broken the fourth script for Season Three of True Blood already and that shooting is tentatively slated to begin December 3rd on the highly anticipated third season. So what did Ball reveal about what's coming up on True Blood and what did he have to say about this season? Let's dive in, but beware: there are MAJOR SPOILERS below. (Note: Please do not reproduce this interview in full elsewhere. Quotes and excerpts are fine but please do not post the full text of this interview on message boards, websites, or elsewhere.) Alan Ball: We used the books as a template and that is sort of the way the second book is structured. Maryann is not as refined in the second book; she’s a maenad, she’s just a crazy woman running around in the woods. And we also felt like the first part of the season we had a lot of different storylines taking place in different places and then we wanted to bring them all together, bring all of our regulars together for one—something--where everyone was fighting the same fight for the last episode. Televisionary: Was it difficult juggling the separate storylines in the first half of the season? We do have the cast split up more or less for most of the season. Ball: You know, it wasn’t difficult. It was definitely different from the first season. But I sort of feel like, you want to do that, you want to shake the show up and do different things. You don’t want to just do the same things over and over and over again. I follow my instincts. To me, they were three really fun, interesting storylines. And then the fact that Jason sort of veered in with Bill and Sookie and then everyone came home and it all sort of came together, I actually thought it was really fun. Ball: They are so good. Of course, there’s a chance. They’re not dead. And I think they are both probably really pissed off. Televisionary: Did you realize how much impact Godric’s death would have, despite Allan Hyde only appearing in a handful of episodes? Ball: You know, I did because in the books, it’s really, really powerful and we tried hard to make it as powerful as it is in the books and that was a really tough role to cast because it was difficult to find an actor who looked so young but who could convey centuries of feeling and to be tired of life and tired of being alive and ready to move on. And I always thought that that was a great story and a great character. So I was not surprised; I was very moved myself. When I first saw the cut of that episode, I got a little teary, a little misted up. Ball: That whole episode is really wonderful. The episodes leading up to that one have been so filled with adventure and suspense and craziness and then I love that whole episode because there’s not only the scene with Godric and everything that’s going on with him but the Jessica stuff is really starting to heat up. And I love that scene with Jason and Sookie in the hotel, where they talk about Gran and he sort of drops his guard and you see how vulnerable he really is. Televisionary: In that same episode, Godric’s death also enables us to see a different side of Eric. Was that a way for you and the writers to give Eric an added layer of vulnerability? Ball: Yes, absolutely. One of the great, fun aspects of the books—and it’s become for the show as well—is the romantic tension between Bill, Sookie, and Eric. And we started off the season and we wanted to make Eric a bad-ass and I think we were very successful with that, by having him shred that guy in front of Lafayette’s face. (Laughs) And then in order to have him be a real, viable option for Sookie, you have to have some humanity there. She may be attracted to him physically, especially now that she’s had his blood, but she’s never going to go with somebody who she feels is evil or at the very least amoral. That was definitely what we were thinking of with Eric. Televisionary: While Sookie and Bill are our romantic leads, Hoyt and Jessica offer us a very different take on vampire-human love. Did you anticipate such an incredible reaction to their storyline and specifically toward Jim Parrack and Deborah Ann Woll? Ball: When I saw the scene [in "Scratches"] in the third episode where she walks into the bar and I saw that scene cut together, I did anticipate it. I went, wow! We really have something special here. They’ve just become a major couple on the show. I don’t think it’s going to be easy for them. Nothing is ever going to be easy for anybody on this show. Televisionary: Season One saw Bill protecting Sookie on an almost weekly basis but in Season Two we see Sookie take a major step into adulthood and stand up for herself. How will their relationship continue to develop in Season Three, especially given with Eric’s influence over Sookie and Bill’s kidnapping? Ball: I know exactly what’s going to happen in Season Three, because we’ve already started breaking the episodes and figuring the arc of the season. So I can’t really say without giving too much away what I think. But I’ll say this: the love between them is authentic and real, but that doesn’t mean that they will necessarily stay together. But it doesn’t mean that they won’t either, though. Televisionary: Looking ahead to Season Three, are there are any themes or plots that you intend to employ next season? One of the more intriguing threads picked up in last night’s episode is both Sam and Sookie looking to find their roots. Ball: Yeah, I think that whereas if we had any sort of major overarching theme for Season Two it was about the power of belief, both positive and negative. I think probably Season Three is going to be more about identity and characters really sort of coming to grips with who or what they are. Televisionary: It seems almost like a red herring that Eric was behind Bill’s kidnapping last night. Should we be looking at any other potential suspects behind his disappearance? Ball: I think you should always be considering all possibilities. (Laughs) That doesn’t mean that we’re not going to make the choice that is the one that’s being positioned to look like a red herring. But with this show, you never know what’s going to happen. I try to work with the writers in creating a show that when you buy the DVDs and you watch the season over again, knowing what’s going to happen, you’ll see moments where you’ll say, oh, of course. We tried to structure Season One with Rene’s identity as the killer that way, to never shine a light on it but Michael Raymond-James, who played Rene, knew from the very beginning that he was the killer. So he played it in a very subtle way so that if you watch those DVDs, now you’re like, oh, I see it. But we never want to give that away on the first go-around. I’d have to say it’s a similar situation with [Bill’s kidnapping]. Televisionary: When I interviewed Deborah Ann Woll a few months ago, she described Jason Stackhouse as “delightfully dim.” Does Jason’s killing of Eggs in the season finale reinforce that description? Ball: (Laughs) Well, it certainly wasn’t a smart thing to do but he did it from a good place because he thought that Eggs was going to kill Andy. That’s certainly something that’s going to come back and haunt him. Televisionary: Did you always intend Eggs to die at the end of the season? It obviously has huge repercussions for Tara. Ball: Absolutely. We always knew that… Of course, I’m sad to loose Mehcad [Brooks], I’m sad to lose Michelle Forbes, I was very sad to lose Lois Smith but it’s a show about vampires and there’s a lot of violence. You can’t just have everybody you like just always get away because then it becomes a very different kind of a show and it loses its authenticity. Or as much authenticity as a show about vampires can have. (Laughs) Televisionary: The body count will always be high. Ball: Yes, there will always be a big body count on this show. Televisionary: It’s intimated in the season finale that there’s a hidden force that’s supposedly watching over Sookie? Will we learn more about this and is this connected to that dangling plot thread about what happened to the Rattrays in the pilot? Ball: Absolutely. Certainly, part of Sookie’s quest in Season Three, apart from trying to find Bill and find out who took him, is to figure out who and what she is. And by the end of the season, she certainly will be beginning to figure that out. Ball: That came from a writer on staff, Raelle Tucker. It was one of those moments where it gets pitched and I sort of go, well, of course. What other show could you do that on? Well, I guess now there are several other shows you could do that on, but at that point… I had never worked on a show where that actually made perfect sense to do something like that. For me, that’s the best part of science fiction or fantasy or genre or whatever you want to call it in that you can put people in situations that most of us will not have to face in life and it’s just really, really interesting. Televisionary: Jessica’s been through a hell of a lot this season but then she hunts and kills in the season finale. Is this normal teenage rebellion or are we seeing her go to a much darker place next season? Ball: I don’t think you can say anything is normal teenage rebellion. Basically, all of the events of Season Two take place over eight days. So she’s still a fairly freshly-made vampire. Bill hasn’t been much of a maker and she just had a really emotional experience with Hoyt walking out on her. It’s part of her instincts as a vampire and her need to feed and her not liking Tru Blood because it’s a poor substitute and also she’s just got rage. And she’s got good reason to have rage. She got turned into a vampire against her will and then she thought she’d found a way to make that work and then all of the sudden, it’s been taken away from her. She’s only 17 or 18, so… I wouldn’t call it normal teenage acting out. (Laughs) Televisionary: One of the more unexpected partnerships that developed this season was Jason Stackhouse and Andy Bellefleur, who offered a bit of comic relief but also a genuine, strange friendship that might be shattered by Jason’s actions in the season finale. Ball: We’re definitely going to put some tension on them but they will continue to actually be a sort of – I don’t want to call them a team but their lives are definitely going to intersect in Season Three. Televisionary: How many scripts have you broken for Season Three? Ball: We’ve broken four scripts so far. Televisionary: Are you ever surprised by anything in terms of breaking the stories that you didn’t anticipate? Ball: This is different from Six Feet Under in that we’re working from source material and one of the reason is that Charlaine’s books are so successful is that they work. We’re starting Season Three with the third book and the books are basically Sookie’s stories because she narrates them and then we try to figure out how to bring the other characters in and keep everyone involved. In Season Two, we specifically decided to send everybody off on their own little thing and then have them reunite at the end but I don’t want to repeat that so I’m really trying to keep Season Three certainly a little more organic with the connection between the regulars. But, no, we’re working with the source material. Like I said, a lot of Charlaine’s books just work so if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. On Six Feet Under, there were always massive shifts in seasons. But again that was more of a blank slate because we weren’t basing them on any existing material. Ball: No, she’s not a series regular but she definitely will appear. I know some fans thought that she wasn’t scary enough but all I can say to that is that I didn’t want to blow our wad at the top. She’s pretty scary and we’ll definitely see that. She’s crazy! I mean, that character is insane so I don’t think we’ve really seen an insane vampire yet. Televisionary: So, we’ve seen telepaths, vampires, maenads, and shifters all turn up in Bon Temps. Any new creatures we can expect to see in Season Three? Ball: Werewolves… Televisionary: Are there any clues for what viewers can expect for next season? Ball: I can tell you that we will meet the Vampire King of Mississippi and he will have an agenda with the Vampire Queen of Louisiana. We will meet werewolves, some other weres that aren’t wolves but they are not shifters either. (Laughs.) We are going to meet Sam’s blood relatives, we’re going to meet probably the nastiest vampire we’ve met yet and Lafayette might get some action, might have a little love story of his own. | Date: 09/14/2009 True Blood spoiler: Exclusive: 'True Blood' finale postmortem with Alan Ball! Though last night’s True Blood finale tied up a bunch of loose ends, it also untied a bunch more! For instance (spoiler alert): Who kidnapped Bill? Why was Eric mostly MIA? Will the Queen return? Are Jessica and Hoyt over? What is Sookie? And that’s for starters. Luckily, series creator Alan Ball agreed to a little post-episode Q&A to finish us off. Some folks were surprised by the structure of the finale and your decision to wrap up the Maryann story in the first 30 minutes. ALAN BALL: I try to look at the show as basically almost like it’s a novel, and each episode is a chapter. I guess I’m influenced by the fact that when I watch TV shows, I watch the [DVD] boxed sets. Ultimately, it’s just organically the way it worked out. And the season finale last year was very similar. Why wasn’t there more Eric in the finale? BALL: There is a reason for not seeing Eric in the last part of the episode, but if I explain it, I’ll be [giving away] too much. Will he be prominent next season? BALL: Yes. Although, when I saw your [latest episode of Ausiello TV], for a moment I thought, we’re going to have to kill Eric, because you are the man. I thought wow, I had many seasons of Eric planned but I guess I’ll have to off him. [Laughs] Speaking of which, are you surprised at how passionate the Sookie/Eric fans are? BALL: Yes. I try not to get involved in that because it just sort of — it’s too confusing. I don’t want it to influence what the show is. Personally, I’m like, yes, Eric’s hot, but beyond that he’s dangerous, and I don’t know if he’d love anybody besides himself. What’s the appeal there? The bad boy? The danger? Why wasn’t Sookie susceptible to Maryann’s powers but Jason was? Do they have different parents? BALL: They have the same parents. We will find out what Sookie is [next season]. There are such things as dominant and recessive genes. Maybe Jason is fundamentally human but he has a trace of some non-human stuff. He’s kind of a ridiculously perfect [human being]. He’s athletic and has that charisma thing, so maybe he had some help in that regard. [Laughs] Ultimately, if you look at percentages, he’s mostly human. Sookie has a stronger genetic predisposition in another direction. People who have read the books know exactly what I’m talking about. People who haven’t, it will be revealed. What’s up with the Queen’s Yahtzee obsession? BALL: You’re 400 years old. What are you going to do? [Laughs] It’s something we came up with in the room and we thought it was funny. Fans are polarized about Evan Rachel Wood as the Queen. A big complaint is that she doesn’t come off scary enough. BALL: She will. You don’t want to introduce a character you’re going to see later and blow your wad up front. It’s funny because the fans are so rabid. Of course, that’s fantastic. And the fact that they’re so completely wrapped up in the show and they get upset and they think, “I don’t like that! I love that.” It means people are watching and the show is really affecting them. I think of the show as having a long life. You can’t explain everything and blow your wad in the first episode the first time time you introduce a character. All I can say is keep watching. It will make sense. Will she return next season as a series regular? BALL: She won’t be a series regular, but she will appear. Every state has its own vampire royalty. We will meet the King of Mississippi. Interesting things happening between him and Evan’s Queen. (Find out who’s just been cast as the King!) As much as I loved Michelle Forbes’ portrayal of Maryann, the story felt like it dragged on a little long. Why did it take her so long to get to the endgame? BALL: That’s part of what the queen talks about. They’re always improvising. She really can’t conjure up a God. But she’s so fervent in her belief; she keeps trying this sacrifice and that sacrifice. She’s completely delusional. She killed Miss Jeanette and I think she thought that was going to work. She always thinks it’s going to work. It never does because the God who comes never actually comes. But she so fervently believes that he will, and she’s been believing it for thousands of years. That’s how they were able to outsmart her. Have we seen the last of her? BALL: Yes, she’s gone. They destroyed her. She will never rise — which I hate because I love [Michelle], and she was so much fun to work with. She’s really delightful and everyone loves her and we hated to kill her but we had to. How closely will you follow the third book next season? BALL: We take the gist of the books, [but] we will depart whenever we feel like it makes better television as opposed to reading. We continue to use the books as templates. But now that I’ve read all nine books there are things that are revealed in later books that we are moving up so that they’ll probably happen in the show earlier than they do in the books. Will you introduce werewolf Alcide? BALL: Yes. Have you cast him? BALL: No. We will also meet Sam’s blood relatives, the super bad vampire Franklin Mott, we’ll meet Debbie Pelt, we will also meet the people who live in Hotshot a little bit ahead of schedule. We’ve already broken four episodes and I’ve sent two writers out with scripts over hiatus. Have we seen the last of the Fellowship of the Sun? BALL: No. Just because Steve got humiliated, they still exist. And maybe he’s angrier than ever. The fact that Jason killed Eggs has me thinking you might restart the Jason-Tara love story next season. Will you? BALL: Certainly, Jason is going to be consumed with guilt. And he’s going to feel like, “I’ve ruined her life and I’ve got to make her feel better.” Whether that’s wise in any way shape or form remains to be seen. I think Tara certainly gave up on her obsession with Jason, but now that she’s dealing with the worst thing that ever happened to her, she might be more vulnerable to his charms. Is Tara ever going to be in a happy relationship? BALL: Happy relationships are boring. We all want them in our own life. But I don’t want to watch them on TV. Any plans to give Lafayette a boyfriend? BALL: Yes. Anything imminent? BALL: Nothing I can talk about. But certainly we will see more and more of Lafayette. He built a lot of walls around himself. But we will see him get vulnerable next year — and not just being afraid of Eric. Any regrets killing off Godric? As I’m sure you’re aware the character was very well-received. BALL: There’s no regret in killing him off because I think that [story was] really powerful. That was my favorite thing about the second book. However, we can always go back in history. He and Eric had a relationship for a thousand years. We can always go back and see him again. Are Hoyt and Jessica doomed? BALL: They still love each other. But there will be problems — as you probably could tell based on last night’s episode. You do realize how awesome those two are together, right? BALL: I totally know that. How long do we have to wait for season 3? BALL: It’s probably going to premiere around the same time it did this year. We’re going to try to shoot one episode before the Christmas break. I don’t know if HBO will bring the show back earlier, but it certainly won’t be later. Is there anything I’m forgetting to ask you? BALL: I’m surprised you didn’t ask who took Bill. Who took Bill? BALL: It was Hoyt’s mother. Submitted by: Boadicea Source: Mike Ausiello Entertainment Weekly | |||||||||||||||||||||
