"HBO, first look at Battleship on. Alexxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx."
Damn! Missed it. But I've DVR'd it for 11:45 when it re-airs. Thanks for the reminder PBT! Was there much Alex?

"I didn't say wrap them in cellophane. I said dip them in antibacterial in the bathtub. Heheh. Child Protective Services came knocking. Can't imagine why.

Yeah, very brave. I have a deviated septum for years and years. Done nothing to alleviate the problem. I've watched too many plastic surgery shows. I know what it entails now. Between straightening the sucker and roto rooting the damn thing. Runs and hides.

Though, I will say since chemo therapy years 7 years ago I don't have half the problems I use to have. Hmmm."
Chemo? I didn't realize you went through chemo. I knew about the radiation. You've been through the wringer.

Well, so far I'm pleased with the surgery. I'm sleeping well, without having to sit up due to congestion, for the first time in years. Although I had a spell with bleeding last week. Apparently, even if you feel like you can exercise & heavy lift 6 days after surgery, you shouldn't. *shrugs* I've been on virtual bed rest since and I'm going fvcking crazy. Follow up appt. tomorrow. Hopefully I get "released" if I promise not to be an idiot. *crosses fingers*

Crosses fingers and hope you get the released. Totally understand the bed rest crap. Ugh. Yeah, I did chemo for 6 months with the heavy duty stuff and then a year for some follow up crap. Rolls eyes. Lost hair and all that. That was 6 years ago. ;)

We always think we are ready before we are really ready. Two weeks after mastectomy (high) on Oxycontin I thought I could go and judge an Olympics of the Mind competition. I did but probably shouldn't have. I was totally wiped by the end of the day. I didn't drive. Thank god.

Girl, you have been through way more than I knew. No wonder you have such a great outlook on everything! Is VIking Jr coming home for summer?

Yes, we picked him up from college yesterday. He needs to make a decision as to what he wants to do now. College was not a ringing success the first year. Perhaps military, or community college and live at home for a year. I hoping the first choice. I think.

Some have a more linear course than others. For me, nothing linear about it, and I still ended up in law school with a good career. For me (just talking me here) my grades turned around when I started working full time. My parents discouraged it first year; I started just working a little and then increased my hours, starting waitressing on campus. Second year I moved up in catering, taking on more responsibility. My employers' confidence in me gave me confidence and I did much better in school - I finally cared about school. Saw a goal. *shrugs* Hopefully this summer he'll figure out the best course for him. Don't give up hope!

No, I am not giving up hope at all. I guess I always knew what I wanted to do and had a goal. At this point the best I can find out from him, is that other freshman were already making videos etc and he was stuck in basic courses of history and english and he wasn't having it. You know patience thing. Looks around. Don't know where he gets that.

Can he load up on the basics through online courses over the summer and then possibly give another semester a try in the fall? What he is going through is not at all unusual, but everyone is different. And everyone is not suited to or even needs the four year deal.

Wow, you sound so much more focused than I was!
First year is always hard. Usually it's the partying *raises hand*
Sometimes taking the general courses is best if you're not
sure what you want to do. To tell you the truth, I'm not sure how
they do it nowadays. My sitter is a student at a 4 yr. university.
She's a Jr. and says she hasn't really had a Literature class.
How is that possible? In my day even if your major was
Pottery you had to take Enlgish Lit.

Many high schools are now offering courses that transfer over for college credit. For instance, my son already has two college level classes under his belt that will transfer over to USC and a few other local state colleges if he decides to stay in-state. Although, I have to say, it does sound very strange that your sitter hasn't had Lit. How long has she been in?

Not sure what he has planned. Right now, he's looking for a job. I think it would be good for him to work and pay bills for a year so he has a better understanding of how much it takes to live.

I think he is still interested in media and computers.

Yeah, I was focused but knew how to balance my partying *cough, cough* and studies. I am not saying I was perfect. Far from it. But I went to classes for the most part, and ended up with 3.75 as my cumulative average after 4 years.

His friend who he roomed with isn't going back either, he is transferring to a 4 year university only an hour away. Actually a much more elite college. So we will see what he decides.

She's a Jr... supposed to graduate May 2013. I don't know what her major is - some kind of business or PR... she wants to do event planning. Satisfying the req't in H.S. may have been possible. She went to a magnet school or one with an IB program or something (can't remember). But, I would have thought she'd say "... b/c I took it in H/S." *shrugs* I do know that when I was college I would take these experimental courses... ones that were being offered for the first time and weren't even in the course catalog, just flyers on campus. I satisfied my Philosophy req't with "Challenges of Leisure".... and satisfied my (I believe) physical science req't (most took Astronomy) by taking "Natural Disasters"... LOL!

Entertainment Weekly for this week has Chris Meloni and Anna Paquin on the front cover. Nice article about True Blood and center pull out section has posters of our favorites. Bill, Eric and Russell on one side and Jessica, Sookie and Lafayette on the opposite side. Nice spoilers about Season 5. Do you find this valuable?
